I personally didn’t have an interest in fixed stars until I started learning about Hellenistic Astrology and Starseed systems. For a long time, I believed that Modern Astrology was everything I would ever need to feel complete in my Astrology practice, but I was wrong.
Traditional Astrology, despite being old, still has a lot of insight to offer that won’t be found anywhere else. Planetary rulerships have their origins in Hellenistic Astrology, for example.
Since ancient times, the 15 Behenian fixed stars have been considered pure sources of cosmic energy. Their pointed nature generates sharp and precise insight in natal charts.
The name Behenian originates from the Arabic word “root”, since each fixed star was viewed as a primordial energy source for one or multiple planets. Because of this, they have always been used for energy work in Medieval Astrology from Europe and the Arab region.
The term “fixed” is misleading because the Universe is constantly in motion. However, the movements of planets, asteroids, the Sun and the Moon, as well as the division into astrological houses, the stars, which are not part of the solar system, are perceived as almost motionless.
The reality is that the fixed stars’ position moves approximately 1 degree every 72 years.
Each fixed star is associated with a crystal gemstone and a plant that draws in that particular energy source for practical use. Charging a crystal with a fixed star’s energy is one way to consciously tap into a star system’s energy.
There’s always been some debate over how wide the orb aspect should be. The general rule is that when a planet is within six degrees of a fixed star, its energy signature would be more obvious.
Of course, the closer the orb, the stronger the energy. If a fixed star conjoins any of the angles (ascendant, descendant, IC, or midheaven), then its presence would be particularly strong and have a more direct impact on the chart native.
If a fixed star conjuncts any planets, even the lunar nodes, and are also activated by significant transits, especially eclipses, then this would also amplify the energy.
Something else to take into consideration is that the brighter the star, the greater the orb.
In Traditional Astrology, Aldebaran, Regulus, Antares, Fomalhaut, Sirius, Spica, and Caput Algol were all used with wider orbs.
Sometimes, paying attention to the fixed stars in a natal chart can bring more clarity on why a planetary archetype is manifesting in a bizarre way.
The reason behind this might be that a fixed star in close proximity has Mercurial or Martian qualities, since all fixed stars resonate with one or several of the planets in the solar system.
An example of this would be Sirius, which is said to express qualities of Mars and Jupiter.
Here’s a list of the 15 Behenian fixed stars with their corresponding astrological degrees and star systems:

A Renaissance occultist, Cornelius Agrippa, used fixed star glyphs and information that originated from traditional sources linked to Hermes Trismegistus. One of these sources included the medieval Hermetic manuscript “The Book of Hermes” that delved into the 15 Fixed Stars.
It’s interesting that some of the most well-known Starseed systems such as the Pleiades, Arcturus, Sirius, Polaris, Procyon, Spica, and Vega are part of this cosmic group. It just goes to show that humanity has always been aware of their special place in our collective evolution, even before the exploration of Soul groups of origination and Starseed systems in modern times.
